While drawing from the prophetic words of the Tanakh , early in His ministry , Yeshua announced the very character of His work in these terms ,
The Ruach ADONAI ( Spirit of the LORD ) is on me , Because He has anointed me to proclaim Good News to the poor . He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind , to set free the oppressed , and to proclaim the year of ADONAI ’ S favor .
Of course , there were many traumatized within first century Israel . But those who were called by Yeshua and entered the work of the Kingdom , were healed as they walked in the power of God and were able to see God work through them , and saw how the Father worked through Yeshua through Signs and Wonders .
Although this is the model for ministry in the New Covenant Scriptures , this level of power ministry in the Gospel is something we do not know very well or see often in the American church , but we should . As we look to the Gospel ’ s , one of the first things we find is that the ministry of Yeshua was first and primarily intended for those of whom we would call “ marginalized .”
This quote is seen in Luke 4:18 , but was originally declared prophetically in Isaiah chapter 61 . The context of this passage surrounds the commandments of the Year of Jubilee
( Leviticus 25:1-13 ) where God provides a
“ reset ”, and through it lands were returned to their original owners . Through this , the Nation of Israel experiences a new economic reset ( or restoration ), and is reminded of the coming Mashiach and the Kingdom to
Come .
Through the ministry of Yeshua and His message of the Good News , all are invited to God ’ s healing and restoration where as seen in the Scriptures in ministry to the weak , the forgotten and the marginalized . As the Messiah of Israel , Yeshua came to set them free as did the Emissaries
( Apostles ) and the 70 as recorded in Luke chapters 9 and 10 . The Beatitudes of Matthew 5 should likewise be understood in the same way .
