At Elim Messianic Congregation , we were surprised to find out how many people were greatly impacted by reading of our congregational handbook . It presented a high standard for Elim members , communicated that we were more organized than outward appearances , and brought a measure of stability to this “ new group ” in town .
6 . How do you handle the visitors who press the issue on “ one law ” debates , sacred name , etc .? Consider offering an annual meeting to discuss these topics that drift outside of the mainstream of the Messianic movement . For example , “ I ’ m sorry sir , but we do not support a “ one law ” view . If you ’ d like to come to our annual class on the subject , we will be addressing how we came to that conclusion .”
Offering such an annual meeting also allows your membership to engage with these topics , as they need to be capable of discerning how to navigate these pitfalls .
7 . Learn contentment . He placed you in a season where your ministry has limited finances , human resources , or clarity . In these seasons , it ’ s easy to focus on how glorious ministry will be once God brings people to fill these gaps . But God has you in a season of learning contentment . Avoid the temptation to covet : if only “ she ” would join our ministry ! Instead , pray that God will bring the right people at the right time .
8 . In life , there is often a 2 – 3-year threshold that relationships need to clear . Your new group may initially attract some of the city ’ s floaters — those who float from one ministry to the next . They may be excited about your vision , and you are waiting to see if their character has developed since their last attempt at developing relationships within a ministry context . After 2-3 years , you will have a better idea of who is willing to commit to this ministry long-term . This does not mean they will be a ministry partner at your side for life ( we want to “ sow people ” into the Kingdom of God just like we sow finances into the Kingdom … generously ).
9 . Will the main meeting be primarily evangelistic or primarily discipleship focused ?
