Recently I tied my own tzitzit using a Kosher Orthodox which I tied with a blue tekhelet from Israel . I also find myself with an Anglican prayer and devotional primer that draws from the BCP supplementing my prayer life . Some may call this approach a careless confusion or religious syncretism , but I disagree . I can be a faithful Jew , loyal to the covenant at Sinai , honoring the traditions of my fathers , while drawing on a rich liturgical tradition that is full of Messiah-centric prayers that incorporate our New Covenant realities which can be missed when praying the Siddur alone . Messiah must be the center of our life as we boldly live as loyal Jews and radical disciples of our Jewish Messiah .
I encourage all Jewish believers among us to lean in with the Ruach and see how we can strengthen both parts of who we are as Messianic Jews – this will look different for all of us , but the basic premise still stands –
Our call is to a radical Jewish identity that sees ourselves within Israel along with radical devotion to our Messiah Yeshua and His community of followers . No other extreme should suffice .
The ACNA connects our congregation to a rich Anglican history and tradition that has had an effective witness to the Jewish people for centuries . It also provides a rich liturgical history through the Book of Common Prayer ( BCP ) that pairs well with the Siddur .
I pray I get to share in a future article how we can formulate healthy Gentile identity in our movement .
