Hello and welcome to the July issue of Tifton Scene ! It ’ s hard to believe it ’ s almost time to go back to school . When I think about the first few days of school , rather it be elementary school , middle school , or high school , I think about the paperwork that is sent home . I think about the teachers with sign up sheets , encouraging you to join Key Club , Mathletes or the Future Business Leaders of America .

When I attended college , every freshman was required to attend “ Get on Board Day ,” where every club and civic organization on campus passed out flyers in hopes of you joining their organization .

I was almost talked into ballroom dancing , which would ’ ve been fun if I didn ’ t have two left feet .

As adults , those papers don ’ t come home with us . We sometimes struggle to find communities within in our town where we can share vested interests and ideas . So , we decided to create an issue to help you find your community in town , with a little something for everyone .

Rather you ’ re hoping to get out of the house for a few hours and just enjoy laughs or looking to beautify your community , Tifton has something for you .

Tift County Lanes now offers a Monday Night Bowling League for all ages and all skill levels . You don ’ t have to be great ; you , your friends , and even your kids can just enjoy trying to knock over some pins , while making new friends and enjoying the familiar tastes of the concession stand .

If sports aren ’ t your thing , that ’ s perfectly alright- they aren ’ t mine either . Maybe you enjoy tending to your garden . Have you ever considered joining Keep Tift Beautiful or maybe the Horticulture Club ? These two organizations work to not only beautify their own space , but the community through service days and monthly beauty spots . Perhaps you ’ re not an avid gardener or an athlete . That ’ s okay too ! Peanut Butter and Jesus requires no agility or green thumbs , just a love for the Lord and a desire to serve those in need . The organization encourages the young and the old to come together for a purpose bigger than itself , prompting anyone to join .

We know these are only a few of the numerous organizations in Tifton to become a part of , but we hope this school year , your kids aren ’ t the only ones able to find a community and friends ; we hope to see you out there too .
