The optimum number of volunteers needed each week is 25-30 .
One mixing fills three bowls , and from each of those bowls comes 75 sandwiches .
“ A lot of people need hope and we feel like we ’ re providing hope and showing love when we ’ re out there .”
Being out in the community has allowed the crew to identify needs beyond hunger and prayer . He remembered serving a house without heat . The PB & J volunteers bought electric heaters .
“ You get the opportunity to bless them with something else sometimes ,” said McBrayer .
Those wanting to help out can volunteer . Financial donations are accepted as well , said Mc- Brayer . Peanut Butter and Jesus does not receive any government grants .
As much as Peanut Butter and Jesus is doing for Tifton , McBrayer thinks it may be doing even more for him .
“[ Those in need ] see the love and light of Jesus through us serving them ,” he said . “ I feel like we get the bigger blessing by serving them .”
Peanut Butter and Jesus is growing , not just locally . McBrayer is aware of at least 40 other chapters statewide , nationwide , and some even worldwide .
Peanut Butter and Jesus has grown from one route and 141 bags to five routes and more than 1,700 each week .
