Since then , Walker said she has come to view this next step in a more positive light , informing the graduates that looking to the future doesn ’ t mean you can ’ t cherish the past .
“ These past four years have consisted of both the best and worst times ,” Walker said . “ From allnight studying for tests and facing challenges during the COVID pandemic , to sports games , school dances , and , of course , getting to eat chicken tenders every day . I would not have wanted to spend these moments with any other class . We are joined together in celebration of the fun times and of becoming a shoulder to lean on in the tough times .” Walker asked those in attendance to take a moment in memory for the students they had lost , urging her classmates to carry on their memory , not only with the graduation ceremony , but with the next step of their lives as well .
In regard to the future , Walker encouraged her fellow students to reconsider the question they had been asked since they were kids – not what they wanted to do but who they wanted to be ?
As her speech came to a close , Walker urged the members of the Class of 2022 to follow their dreams and passions , and promised she would never forget the memories they had shared together .
With the endorsement of diploma distribution given by Tift County Schools Superintendent Adam Hathaway , each graduating student was invited up to the stage to receive the diploma .
Students were called up alphabetically by Dr . Mike Chason , director of public relations at ABAC , beginning with the superior honor students , who had earned a grade point average of 95 or above , then moving to the honor students , who had earned a GPA of 90 or above , and finishing with the remaining student body .
Once the last name was called , diplomas were handed out by faculty among the students as the school choir was called to sing the school ’ s alma mater .
As the Class of 2022 was presented to the audience by TCHS Principal Dr . Chad Stone , the turning of tassels , tossing of caps and subsequent explosions of confetti signaled the completion of the ceremony and their official graduation from high school .
And with their graduation completed , the former senior students of Tift County High School took the first steps into the next chapter of their lives together . TS
