the period to life through the Munros’ story - compassion

On 1st January 1919, the HMY Iolaire sank in Stornoway
Harbour, killing over 200 servicemen on their way home
from war. Donald S Murray’s novel explores the effect of
this tragic event on the life of imaginary survivor Tormod
Morrison who, twenty years later, has to cope with the
death of his own daughter and its impact on her two
children, Alasdair and Rachel. ‘The kind of novel which
can enrich your life.’ (Alan Massie, The Scotsman).
