FEATURES Summit Rooms, several of us sat in on the Talking Stick Circle. This circle is based on the traditional Native American practice as an opportunity for women to express their feelings uninterrupted. We heard from women who had come long distances in miles and in their lives through the power of being on two wheels on the open road. After a heartfelt welcome by Joan Krenning, the founder of Steel Horse Sisterhood, the first night’s speakers set the pace for all of us to be empowered to be ourselves in our lives through the journey of the ride. Laura Klock wowed the crowd sharing the land speed records, which not only she set, but also brought her two daughters in to set records too, becoming the first mother- daughter land speed record holders. She got everyone, including our group, inspired to work on her Helping With Horsepower project. Lisa Brouwer of Full Throttle Living, blew the lid off of everyone’s inhibitions to stop living the life we dislike that isn’t for us and and several of the ladies in the live the life we dream of and “Oklahoma Girls” group (a name want! we earned due to our noticeable shirts and name badges as we roamed around together), were determined to make the Red Rock Sunrise Ride which we’d been told to not miss! The eight of us who rode to see this splendid mountainside on the West side of Denver, were in awe of its natural beauty as the sun rise lit the red rocks up like The next morning I hit the glowing embers towering all alarm at 4:45am…way early for around us. this lil’ rock star! But myself The ride was a guided ride from the hotel to the Red Rock Park. At the top of one mountain, we were to turn around on a gravel parking lot. For me, I’m never happy about it, but I know I can do it. Some of the women outside of our group literally froze at the feeling of the gravel under their bikes. It was in an exchange with two women who had gotten themselves to this fearful position, that I realized why I’d made this journey. I pulled my bike to the side, trying to coax the first lady to gain the courage to drive through her Thunder Roads Magazine of OK/AR 39
