EVENTS of home, but we decided to cap off the weekend with a trip to see the Statue of Liberty and Ground Zero. The Statue of Liberty is a pretty amazing sight looking across the Hudson River, but riding to Ground Zero was truly a moving experience. After some more crazy riding through the streets and Helvey running the Sick Shovel smooth out of gas, we walked over to the memorials at Ground Zero. It is difficult to explain, but there is a feeling that comes over you while there. You can feel that something has happened there. The monuments for all the lives that were lost were done tastefully and very well thought out. The building that NYC is building as the “replacement” is massive. A number of shops and building around Ground Zero have pieces of the buildings that fell. Seeing the thickness of the metals and the damage that was done to them was aweinspiring. Really it was the perfect ending to what turned out to be the best weekend of motorcycle 32 Thunder Roads Magazine of OK/AR fun that I have ever had the pleasure to experience. Do yourself a favor and put the Indian Larry Block Party, The Brooklyn Invitational, and Ground Zero visit on your bucket list.
