Lone Star
EVENTS
State of Mind
By the time November rolled around, I felt
as if I’d been to every single motorcycle event, I
could possibly go to and I’d done it all in one year!
However, there was one more to make and it was
South to warmer temps and beachside! Galveston,
TX is the home of the Lone Star Rally on a little ten
mile by one mile island.
The rally itself has two main venues. One is
situated along the South side of the island along
the seawall of the Gulf of Mexico. The usual rally
rumble of motorcycles surrounding me was broken
from time to time by the screech of a seagull flying
overhead or the wash of the waves against the
shoreline, a few sounds of which this little gal could
never grow tired. They block one side of the street
off and put vendors and bike shows right down the
road running parallel to the seawall amongst the
delicious seafood restaurants and in the shadow of
the carnival rides atop the pier and boardwalk. A
wonderful site to see for sure!
On the other side of the island is another area
a bit different than the seawall side. This portion

of the rally is what they refer to as the “Strand”
side. Strand is actually the name of a street which
runs through an older part of town that has been
renovated to wonderful shops which are usually
visited by the cruise ship passengers as they await
boarding in the nearby bay. The passengers and
local shoppers are pushed out for the week of the
rally as vendors and bikes FILL the few blocks of
this area. This is that area of the rally we all refer to
as the ride, see and be seen area. A large concert
stage fills the middle area of this venue with bands
like the headliner, Hairball, whom I had previously
caught on stage in Sturgis earlier in the year.
I hope you enjoy the photos of the rally and
the many photos of the bike show where many a
great build were competing. If you go to this rally,
I recommend you take a few extra days to enjoy
the seafood and rides along the coastline. The
sunsets are simply gorgeous over the Gulf!
