A Ride to Remember
Looking for a ride that’s fun and meaningful?
Join hundreds of riders at the 7th Annual Memorial
Benefit Run, Saturday, April 19, 2014. This year’s
ride is held on the 19th anniversary of the Oklahoma
City bombing and all event proceeds benefit the
Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.
The motorcycle run is the brainchild of David
Dunn, owner of Margarita Island in Oklahoma City,
and members of the Heartland Heat Chapter of the
Wind and Fire Motorcycle Club, which is comprised
of active and retired Oklahoma City Firefighters. Most
of the members of the Wind and Fire club served as
heroes in the rescue and recovery efforts during the
Oklahoma City bombing, and all event organizers
wanted to find a way to give back to the Memorial
to help teach the lessons learned in Oklahoma City
to generations of visitors. Several groups lending
their support as volunteers this year are Red Knights,
Downed Bikers, Ghost Mound, Mettle Republic and
American Legion.
“We are pleased to watch this event grow each
year, reaching record numbers of 450+ in 2013,”
said Dunn. “Riding for us is a celebration of life and
we are excited to be able to ride in support of the
Memorial.”
The run begins at Papa’s Leather in Bethany
on April 19, 2014. Participants will make stops
throughout Oklahoma City, including a special stop at
the Memorial to place a wreath at the Field of Empty
Chairs. The first bike out leaves at noon and the last
bike in is at 6 p.m. A concert at Margarita Island
featuring the Led Zeppelin tribute band Uncle Zep
will follow the run after several fun stops throughout
the metro area. New this year - 13 hands will be
awarded a portion of $2,000 in prize money! There
will be fantastic door prizes and raffles for your
chance to win a tornado shelter donated by Kustom
Krete Concrete and a customized 6’ x 12’ single axle
trailer donated by City Trailer and Stacy’s Graphics.
