Some of the Issu
Yellow school buses, orange striped
crossing guards and high-spirited
children seated in alphabet walled
classrooms. Teens chatting in locker
filled hallways, parent teacher
meetings, sporting games; all signs
that our children are Back to School.
However, for one brief second, time
seems to stand still. Was it really
just two short months ago that our
child graduated high school? Is our
baby really about to enter college?
Did we raise them up right? Will they
be OK? Will they get along with their
roommates?
There may no longer be a need to hold their
hands as they walk to the bus stop. No need to
cause “embarrassment” by giving them a kiss
as they are dropped off. Yet, from their first
day of kindergarten until they crossed that
stage at high school graduation, the need to
“parent” never lessens in its intensity. The
realization that our baby is not a baby
anymore leaves us to wonder, where did the
time go? Yet, as the microwave is unpacked;
the bean bag chair properly placed; the
roommate cordially introduced, the ever
present reality that our college students are
back to school finally hits home. The students
are ready to advance to another level of
independence.
