THRIVING Melanin Family Magazine March 2017: National Single Parent Month | Page 22

So many women are weighed down because they help everyone, they carry so many people’ s stress and life worries that they can’ t take care of themselves and focus on what’ s important to them and their kids. So decide to let all the other stuff go, pick the battles that really need to be fought to achieve the dream.
Q: What has creating an empowerment movement been for you? Adria: Being a leader has saved my life. When I gave 100 % into myself, putting energy into my potential and what I can accomplish; speaking life into myself vs. how I failed and my mistakes everything changed. And now I empower other women to do the same, because that saved me from depression. When you really stop and dream and you learn that the dream puts you in a happy, fulfilling place and it begins to feel real and then you go full force after it making it your reality vs. your dream will save your life, that’ s what I want to teach other women.
FOCUS! Focus every day on why am I here.
Q: What is life like for you today? Adria: I’ m living the dream because I wake up every day and am able to do what I dreamed of doing while creating a life I dreamed about.
Q: What key advice do you have for other women? Adria: FOCUS! Focus every day on why am I here. Focus on what is important such as why and what does my child need vs. where is my baby daddy. Pick your battles in life; Let It Go.
Q: How would you say other women can achieve success in their life? Adria: Figure out what fuels you to work hard. Life experience is the best teacher. You’ ve got to learn that failure doesn’ t mean it’ s over. Learning from failure leads to winning. Once you learn that your idea will save your life there is no turning back.
Q: Finally because we are a single mom magazine and this will be read by single moms across the nation what are your views on the stereotype of being a single mom and how do they affect your life? Adria: I don’ t think about the stereotypes or others views for that matter when it comes to my personal life. As far as the community I focus on what is my role and how am I going to change the stereotypes. What am I going to do to give back to my community to help stop the next woman from being a statistic, and I do that.
