Through the fire , storm , tornado Adria Robinson came out on the other side excited to wake up every day
Adria Robinson is a 35 year old single mother of two boys Brandon who will be 16 in July and Adrian who will be 13 in April . She has overcome various struggles growing up , so it is quite fitting that I choose her as the Single Mom Spotlight for March . What better month than Women ’ s History Month and the month in which National Single Parent Day falls to spotlight a woman who has been through the fire , storm , tornado and came out on the other side excited to wake up every day to live the dream of building her dream life .
When I sat down with Adria I have to be honest I didn ’ t know any of her background , all I knew was that she was a single mother who had two boys and was killing it in the entrepreneurship life . Her brand Powerful Women In Business has over 7 thousand members on Facebook and has recently launched Powerful Men In Business . Powerful Women In Business isn ’ t just another Facebook group for women entrepreneurs their mission is to integrate career minded women that will assist their communities by providing , resources , empowerment and inspiration . Aside from daily themed posts they also offer consulting services , lifestyle programs , networkingopportunities , community services and mentoring . Watching her manage being a single mother , being an active participant in her group and launch her own personal brand of business consulting I knew I wanted to sit down with her for an interview and feature her , but when we satdown I quickly learned that she embodied everything I want to spotlight in this magazine and is truly a THRIVING Single Mom . Take a look below at my interview with Adria and see exactly what I ’ m talking about .
During a little girl chat before the interview Adria says that she has thought about going back to the “ 9-5 ” but the schedule and money cap keep her from doing it . She just can ’ t imagine having to actually get up every day at 6am or so to get dressed and go to an actual job every day . She ’ s a night owl and when she did have a job and was building her business she remembers being up until 8am working on her business at times
forgetting that she had to check in or go to the job by 9 . And even though as an IT person she has worked in corporate and received a fairly nice size check she now sees that as an entrepreneur there is no cap on how much money she can make in a day , week , month , year or lifetime .
Q : Adria how many kids do you have and what is the relationship like with their father ( s )? Adria : I have two boys . Adrian will be 13 in April and Brandon will be 16 in July . I co-parent with both of them and their family ’ s really well . My oldest actually lives in North Carolina with his father .
I was going through a lot of personal struggles so I had to make that decision , but it left me feeling like a failure .
Q : WOW ! When did that arrangement start ? Adria : It started when he was about 5 but at the time both of my boys went to live with their fathers and their families .
Q : If you don ’ t mind me asking why and how did that make you feel ? Adria : I was going through a lot of personal struggles so I had to make that decision , but it left me feeling like a failure . I had so many thoughts like I ’ m supposed to struggle it out and make it something that will prevent them from going through anything I went through .
