Becoming a Single Father . . .
In celebration of the upcoming arrival of J’adore Jennifer McGhee

At the age of 6 1/2 my daughter had to come and live with me and my wife at the time. I was roughly
25-26 and my wife and I had two kids together and I had another son who didn’t live with me. At the
age of 34 I went thru a break-up with my wife and it thrust me into the world of a total single father
raising a girl. I faced many challenges needless to say like when she started her cycle, I didn’t know
what in the hell to do so I WHOOPED HER . . . ROFL . . . Just kidding!
It was important to me that all of my children stay
connected although they had different mothers
so I made it my goal to ensure that we all spent
time together on a regular basis and reassure
my boys that my love for them didn’t change just
because mom and I had.

A Non-Traditional Baby Shower offering Sacred Wisdom in
I understood that I now a had a child who LIVED
WITH ME and depended on me to come home
every day so I could not take the same risks
with my life and freedom as I did before. Shortly
after our divorce, my daughter’s grandmother
passed away with whom she was extremely close
so now she had no women figures in her life to
mentor her and teach her. Many of my friends
are women so over the years I leaned on them
for advice and guidance and I must admit that I
made my mistakes along the way however she
couldn’t have made me a more proud single
father. Throughout high school she maintained
an A/B average, sat on the Student Board of
Directors, graduated with honors and joined the
Army Reserves upon graduation. Being a single
father turned me into a man. Learning to care
for and be there for your kids FULL TIME will
change the lives not only of the parents but it
produces a better child.
