TA ’ s Athletic Complex Capital Campaign : Update
Last fall , the Thornton Academy Board of Trustees reviewed broad concepts and plans for a new field house and directed our staff to pursue more detailed drawings , costs analysis , and permits to move forward with this exciting project . Since that update , much work has been done . We are happy to share that we are in the final stages of approving these new architectural drawings and are working toward putting the project out to bid with local construction and general contracting companies .
We feel that this new plan addresses our programmatic and community needs , and will suit the evolving needs of Thornton Academy long into the future .

As we have shared , the results of structural and environmental evaluations on Linnell Gymnasium indicated the cost to renovate the gym would be much greater than originally anticipated . In our efforts to be prudent and responsible stewards of the money donated in support of this project , Linnell will not be included in this project and will remain a practice facility and community space . Instead , a new athletic campus will be created by constructing a new field house adjacent to Hill Stadium . This facility will include a varsity game court and two practice courts , a mezzanine track , teams rooms , an Athletic Hall of Fame space , and concessions . The existing building at Hill Stadium will be converted from its current use as a maintenance building to an athletic center - housing a weight room , cardio equipment , multipurpose space , athletic storage , and offices for the athletic director and staff .

What ’ s next ?
We are currently finalizing the details of the design and tweaking the architectural plans to best meet our programming needs . We expect the next phase of this project to move quickly and once we have secured a construction company we will be able to firm up a timeline for completion of the project .
Our Development team will be reaching out to our existing donors to discuss naming opportunities and any impact the changes in our plans may have had on those selections . We look forward to working together to make sure gifts are recognized in a meaningful way .

As you may know , TA does not receive any taxpayer funds for capital projects , and must rely on the generosity of alumni , parents , and friends to enhance and maintain its campus .
