Lifetouch Publishing recently gave the school’s 2007 yearbook its Middle School Grand Prize as part of its Best of Volumes contest. Thornton Academy Middle School has won a national yearbook award from Lifetouch Publishing. The company bestowed its top Middle School Grand Prize to the school—which serves students in grades 6 to 8 in southern Maine—as part of its Best of Volumes Yearbook Contest. The award is for Thornton Academy Middle School’s 2007 yearbook, for which student Nicole Kehoe ‘12 was the chief editor. Teacher Hope Hall, who advises the yearbook club, said that it is an honor to receive this award. “At first the kids can feel frustrated as they learn how to use the yearbook program, but once they get it, they can create something that’s better than what you see at a lot of middle schools. Our yearbook has a very polished look.” Hall and yearbook club members met with a representative from Lifetouch to receive the award on Feb. 14. According to the company, this award recognizes the creativity and dedication of students from across the country who go above and beyond with their yearbook theme, coverage of events, design and writing. Lifetouch selects a winner annually from schools who use its Volumes program—an online tool—to create their yearbook. As an award winner, Thornton Academy Middle School students have received a $200 cash award and digital camera from Lifetouch to use to capture images for its 2008 yearbook and beyond.
