Brunelle Wingfield of Saco in July 1992: Shawn Parks of Biddeford in December 2008 1998: Daniel Hirtle of Portland in April 2009 Marjorie Garland Marjorie Garland of Saco died peacefully in March. “Marge” was born Jan. 11, 1917 in Rochester, N.H., the daughter of Preston and Clara Chapman. She trained as a nurse at Webber Hospital in Biddeford. In September 1939, she married Harry P. Garland II, a former member and president of Thornton’s Board of Trustees. The two made their home in Saco and together raised two sons who survive her, Charlie Garland ’58 and Stephen B. Garland ’64. Stephen is a current member of the Board of Trustees. The Garland family provided Thornton with a major family gift for our auditorium, built in 1996, which was named in Harry’s memory. The spring musical production of “Footloose” was dedicated to Marge. Marge served many years as a member of Wardwell Home’s Board of Directors, was a member of the Southern Maine Medical Center Auxiliary and an active membe ȁ
