Andrew Nielson received a degree in TV and video from Emerson College and is now in Los Angeles temping and hoping for a permanent slot in the industry. After earning his BS in communications in the video production program at the New England School of Communication in May, Nate Roberts has landed a job for Teleview Racing Patrol. The company installs video equipment at off-track betting facilities nationwide, and Nate will be based in Miami. Two classmates are returning to TA to teach. Keil Martin earned a BA in communications and public relations from St. Joseph’s College in May, and will teach wellness at TA for one year. Megan Bovill was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Colby College and earned a BA in math and human development. Erik Moody graduated from USM in May with a BA in theater. He acted in a local college soap opera, “Criehaven,” in a competition sponsored by Soap Net, and his group was one of five national finalists. Erik is also performing this summer in the Maine Performing Arts Festival in Bethel and is currently starring in the Strong Paw Productions film “Up Up Down Down.” Justin Graffam joined the US Navy in July 2006 and completed basic training in Great Lakes, IL, in September. He is now an airman serving on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. George Washington. Ian Smith, now a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, is on his second tour of duty in Iraq, stationed at forward operating base Hurricane Point just outside Ramadi and is due you—family and friends of Thornton alumni—to mail us obituaries. They are living in Saco. 2004 The 25th annual La Kermesse Festival in June was dedicated to Normand Audie, who lost his life in a motorcycle accident in April 2006. He had volunteered with the festival since childhood. Christina Walls and Josh Tingdahl ‘98 announced the birth of a daughter Isis in March. Jeffrey Walker and Katie Backman ‘05 welcomed a son, Ethan, in March. They are living in Old Orchard Beach. Kris Moody is a senior at Elon University, majoring in journalism with a history minor. He is currently interning at the Journal Tribune writing a weekly golf col- POSTSCRIPTS * SUMMER 2007 TA Mourns Griffiths Former submaster, math teacher and basketball coach Sidney Griffith passed away in May. Griffith served at Thornton Academy from 1957 until 1968, when he left to become the first principal of Massabesic High School. “He was engaging and interested in students and had a larger than life presence. He had two sides­: the stern disciplinarian and the quieter teacher who had a great love of geometry. He had a positive influence on me,” said Board of Trustees president Jim Nelson ‘67. Wilma Griffith, who worked in the TA cafeteria for many years, passed away in June. They are survived by their son Jeff Griffith ‘62. Irene Collins Maher ‘42, Alumni Board Member Mary Irene Collins Maher passed away in March. Irene was a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors for eight years, and treasurer for two of those years. She was a mainstay of the popular Senior Alumni Reunion, helping make nametags, arrange flowers and welcome other alumni. She also organized a group of alumni who played cribbage at TA weekly for several years. Irene’s twinkling blue eyes and ever-present smile are sorely missed. umn and will be spending the winter session traveling to Ghana. 2005 Katie Backman and Jeffrey Walker ‘04 announced the birth of a son, Ethan, in March. They are living in Old Orchard Beach. Desiree Drummond and Kenneth May also welcomed a son, Kayden, in April. Amanda Wakefield and Jeremy Henderson announced the birth of a daughter, Brooke, in February. They are living in Dayton. Eric Traingue graduated from Army National Guard basic combat training at Fort Knox, KY, in December. 2006 Christian List visited China in March with the Eckerd College Choir as part of the Eckerd College/China cultural exchange. “One of our performances was on the Great Wall,” wrote Christian. “The trip was life changing. I will be attending fall semester in London.”
