Class of 1946 Barbara Googins Caldwell has been happily retired in North Carolina since 2011 . She has two adult granddaughters and two young great grands . “ I have been busy taking college courses since I retired ; making quilts and caring for my home . I often wonder about my classmates and wonder who is left . My email is bgcald87 @ gmail . com and I would love to hear from them .”
Class of 1949 Mary Neal Morrison wasn ’ t able to take her trip to Maine in 2020 because of the Coronavirus . In July , she lost her beloved cat , Smokey , who had just turned 19 years old .
Class of 1951 Muriel Thompson Nado shares that while she still makes trips to Maine and spent most of last summer here , there ’ s “ not much to do since the close down ; I ’ ve only golfed twice .”
Class of 1953 Rita Choroszy Boudreau writes that there ’ s “ never a lonesome moment ” with her many grandchildren . In January , she welcomed great grandchild number seven , who joins 24 other grandkids !
Class of 1954 Marjorie Johnson Miller spent the best of the summer at her Ossipee Lake camp with masked family and friends , six feet apart ! “ Some of you remember spending time at that same camp while in high school !”
Joan Crogan Youngs is still going strong ! She shares that she “ spent a lot of time in the summer at my place at Crystal Lake in Gray , Maine , built by my dad in the 40s and 50s .”
Class of 1957 Ethel Boothby Beaudoin reflected on the passing of Alice Simkowitz O ' Leary ’ 57 , saying “ our class lost a wonderful mother , grandmother , wife , and my dear friend . We stayed friends from 2nd grade ‘ til she passed in August of 2019 . We would always meet at yard sales and give each other a hug . I miss her terribly .”
Leone Cloutier Rickabaugh shares that she is still traveling in her RV with her dogs .
Class of 1959 Ernest Morrill wrote this past November ( 2020 ) “ the weather has been warm , so I ' m still on the links .”
Class of 1961 Peter Gordon shared that “ the years roll by , but I still miss all my classmates and think of you often .”
Patricia A . Massie is happy to share that , as of this note ( November 2020 ) she still has her beloved cat , Guinness , who is 17 !
Class of 1962 When Carol Ivey realized that her dental hygienist , Leslie Harvey ’ 85 , graduated from Thornton Academy 20 + years after she did , it was just the nudge she needed to finally send along a note about her life ’ s adventures . She writes , “ my 4 years at TA were a growth experience ... I went to a grade school with a graduating class of 13 — the biggest they had ever had . [ I ] went from four rooms , and four teachers for eight years to TA ; I was lost in Thornton hallways for the first month ! And we had to go outside to get to different classrooms in the Maine winters !" Life has been interesting for Carol ; she was a military-wife , lived in eight states , had 26 homes , 2 kids , and settled in Washington state in 1976 . She found herself single and living in college housing for four years , got a bachelor ’ s degree in business management in 1988 , managed offices for the Oregon State University extension system , moved her parents from Maine to Washington , and cared for them for the last 10 years until their recent passing . She retired two years ago , and just spent a “ horrific year doing the downsizing , selling of a house , moving into my deceased parents home ‘ thing ’; I think I can finally claim to be retired .”
Ernest Tate shared that he ’ s enjoying retirement in Newburyport , Massachusetts , and “ 50 years of marriage to my wonderful wife Sandra .” He even has two sons and beautiful families living nearby .
Class of 1966 Wayne Nason shared that his second great grand-daughter , Byrnn Louise Ward , was born in January 2021 . Her grandparents are Susan Connor Ward ' 82 and James " Jake " Ward ' 82 .
Class of 1967 Dr . Helge Scheibe , who attended TA for one school year as a German exchange student , emailed that after retiring from the medical field , he now lives back in Germany . He ’ d love to try and reconnect with classmates and friends from his days in Saco . He also added his best wishes to all and hopes that all stay healthy during the pandemic and feel free to email him at medquality . dr . scheibe @ t-online . de .
Class of 1968 Guy Forest retired after 20 years at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard . He spends most of his time hunting and still lives in Saco with his wife , Shirley Gaumont Forest ’ 63 .
Class of 1969 Richard R . Forest spent 27 years in the USAF . He lives in Pensacola , FL with wife Esther Davis Forest ’ 70 . They have one child and two grandchildren .
Class of 1970 Patricia McMullen is “ retired and loving it !”
