A family practice physician, mother of five, and creative
entrepreneur, Christine (Babcock) Blake ’91 still makes
time in her busy schedule to give back. As a family
practice physician, she focuses on building healthy habits
as a form of prevention. She has served as President
and a spokesperson for the Maine American Heart
Association Board of Directors and is also featured on
WMTW Channel 8 with a “Heart Healthy” segment. A
2016 recipient of a Maine Osteopathic Board Award for
"outstanding contributions to the osteopathic profession
and community," this Thornton Academy alumna truly
does it all.

Christine reflects on her time at Thornton fondly and
believes that it helped her to develop a diverse background.
She also shares that she even used Macintosh computers

and choreography. Christine found pageants to be a
natural platform to serve as an educator and advocate for
maintaining healthy lifestyles.
Another one of her creative outlets, sewing, has turned into
a successful business venture. She began sewing at age nine
and now designs pageant, prom, and bridal gowns through
Christine Blake Designs. The business took off when
Christine sponsored a custom-made gown for Thornton
alumna, Kristin Korda ’10. Kristin won Miss Maine’s
Outstanding Teen in 2009 and received a handmade dress
from Christine Blake Designs as part of her prize package.
Christine grew her dress business by selling them out of her
family practice office in Westbrook, starting a nonprofit in
the process.
She explains, “I love helping girls and women create a
design that makes them feel amazing. The feeling of beauty
doesn't come from the clothing itself; it comes from the
confidence that the pi
