Class Notes • E-mail Class Notes to: brittany.brown@thorntonacademy.org Class of 1954 Constantine Tsomides shares he is, “Still very actively engaged in my work (completed over 12 major projects in Maine: Portland, Saco, Belfast, Augusta and Thomaston). (I) enjoyed seeing everyone at the Senior Reunion ’15. I spoke at John Wheaton ’54’s Memorial Service last year (June 2014) held in Bowdoin’s College Chapel and reminisced about his Saco childhood, and activities and achievements at Thornton Academy. Bev and Dave Sherman ’54 and many of John’s Saco friends and Bowdoin classmates were in attendance. Dave, John, and I attended Bowdoin together.” Class of 1958 Mary Gay Baldyga shares, “Although graduation from TA was 57 years ago and I have lived in CT for more than 50 years, I still consider myself a Mainer. I’m proud to meet folks from Maine wherever I go!” Bryce D. Roberts shares, “I feel fortunate to be subbing at Thornton!” Class of 1964 Edward Beard is retired and living in Las Vegas. Wendy (Stackpole) Schmitt shares, “We still live in Vermont but visit Kennebunkport monthly. Dad, Wendall Stackpole ’34, still lives there. We visit California where our oldest child has a boy and a girl. Our youngest is building a straw built home in Oregon.” Phillip Saperia retired from The Coalition of Behavioral Health Agencies. A reception was held at New York University on March 15th where city, state, and agency leaders spoke to honor his career. Senate to care for an elderly family member. Class of 1975 Vita (Gerardi) Hansmeyer shares, “I have been living in Alaska since 1982 and working as a nurse. My two children are here in Anchorage. My daughter is a nurse and my son is an environmental scientist. My husband and I are planning to retire in the next few years and travel.” Marc Paquette was recently honored by the City of Saco for 35 years of service with the Saco Fire Department. He started with the department in 1980 and has been a Captain for the past 23 years. His 35th anniversary was October 22, 2015. Below is a family photo taken the evening of the award. Class of 1976 Janet Leary-Prowse shares she is celebrating 12 years as an educator for the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Christiana Hospital in Delaware developing educational presentations for research nurses and support staff working in clinical research. She presented a poster at a national meeting in Boston in November and at a nursing research conference at my hospital. Her oldest son is applying to medical school and youngest is a sophomore at the University of Delaware, and her husband is working for Chemours, an offshoot of DuPont Co. Class of 1981 Joyce (Leary) Clark shares, “The building that housed my Scarborough law office was destroyed by fire in September 2014. Luckily, the attorneys at Prescott Jamieson Murphy Law Group on Beach Street took me in, and I joined the firm this year. Ed and I also relocated to Saco three years ago, just in time for Emma (Class of 2016) to start at TA and Henry (Class of 2022) to start at Burns.” Spectrum Medical Group in South Portland and Craig is a Firefighter/EMT employed by the City of Portland. They reside in their dream home in the town of Gorham. Class of 1984 Michelle (Paquette) Miniutti started North Carolina’s 1st 100% women owned microbrewery!
