Year-long celebration planned
The Thornton Academy Bicentennial Steering
Committee would like to announce the
FOUR ANCHOR EVENTS of the 2011 Bicentennial.
1. Opening Celebration Set for February 2011
February 12, 2011, will officially
kick off the Bicentennial year, celebrating the 200th anniversary of
Thornton’s founding in Feb. 1811.
As befitting a winter founding,
the Opening Committee is planning many winter-oriented outdoor
activities Maine weather cooperat—
ing—such as ice skating, sledding,
snowshoeing and sleigh riding.
Indoors will be displays, ceremonies, videos, singing, food
courts, and more.
As evening approaches, the
campus should be awash in lights—
from spotlights to window displays
to luminaries throughout campus.
If plans work out, a bonfire will
end the day along with fireworks.
Hail to Thee, Our Alma Mater!
