Coming TOGETHER to Celebrate our Seniors

In the months leading up to traditional year-end

celebrations — like Prom , Senior Night , and Commencement — it became clear that the Class of 2020 would not have a typical finish to their high school experience . While rivers may divide the towns of Saco and Biddeford , a strong desire to recognize and celebrate the graduates of Thornton Academy and Biddeford High School brought our communities together through the Candles UNITE for Seniors Project . stood together and invited community members to honor the Class of 2020 by purchasing gold ( TA ) and orange ( BHS ) candle-sized bulbs to light the windows of these neighboring towns each night through what would have been graduation weekend . Thousands of bulbs were sold ; many community members bought bulbs in each color in a united effort to show our graduates love and support during what was a disappointing time .
In addition to celebrating our graduates , the Candles UNITE for Seniors Project also raised $ 4,358.84 from the sale of the bulbs . These funds were split between the towns and used to help feed families and students in our communities in honor of the Class of 2020 .
In early May , Headmaster Rene Menard and Biddeford Superintendent Jeremy Ray released a video filmed at Mechanics Park , with the York Hill Bridge that physically
