FROM THE HEADMASTER

Dear Alumni , Parents , and Friends of Thornton Academy ,

During a time when we have been asked to stay apart — through social distancing , working and learning remotely , and the closure of many local businesses — the Thornton Academy community has continually found ways to come together . A year ago , we had no idea that we would spend the spring separated from one another , navigating some of the most difficult circumstances that many of us have ever faced . Yet , even in this unprecedented situation , the incredible strength and resilience of staff , students , and families has been a source of inspiration and motivation .
I want to particularly recognize our teachers and students who were asked , almost overnight , to completely transform the way in which they teach and learn . Through trial and error , and in true Trojan fashion , we worked together to not only rise to the challenge , but to find ways to lift one another up , celebrate our successes , and learn from our difficulties .
The pages of this edition of Postscripts are filled with stories of how our community has lived out TA ' s legacy of “ inspiration , innovation , and community .” While it has
not been easy to adjust to complex and continually evolving circumstances , the abundance of kindness , camaraderie , and courage displayed by Trojans — past and present — has reminded us that we are indeed Stronger Together .
As we continue to navigate these difficult circumstances and face new uncertainties , we thank those who support TA in all ways , especially through gifts to the Thornton Fund . Your generosity allows us the flexibility to make necessary adjustments and continue serving our students with the level of excellence they deserve . From the Free Breakfast and Lunch Program , to helping to provide internet access to our most vulnerable students , your support helps us now more than ever before .
Each day that passes proves how strong we are when we work together ; we are confident that the care and dedication of our community will carry us through .
Take Care ,
Rene M . Menard ’ 88 , Headmaster
