In all the years that he played, Pike recalls the facilities were always packed; oft en times, chairs were put on the stage to accommodate the attendees. He recognizes that the facilities have not changed since its construction and Th ornton Academy has outgrown the space. "My experience with athletics was great. It kept me focused," Pike said. "I think a new fi eld house is a great asset for the teams. It will help every athletic team." Ernie Huot '48 and Eddie Boutet '48 · A friendship spanning over 70 years Seventy years aft er graduating from Th ornton Academy, Ernie Huot '48 and Eddie Boutet '48 proudly share that they still live within 300 yards of the old Th ornton Academy football fi eld. Huot and Boutet’s bond with Th ornton athletics spans across decades and they took the time to share sentimental stories from their experiences at TA. Boutet, with a laugh, recalls riding his saddle horse to practice one night and losing it. He ended up contacting Art Grantham '47 to turn on the lights to locate his ride home. Boutet also refl ects back on a 60-yard rush for a touchdown in a game against St. Louis. will provide great benefi ts to Th ornton Academy’s campus. Decades of working the Chain Gang in the 1970s-80s, assisting with fi eld cleanup 1981-2011, and his current weekly Wednesday visits to campus decorate Huot’s connections with Th ornton Academy since graduating and earned him an induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016. Huot shares, “It was common to have late practices; the additional space for lacrosse, soccer, fi eld hockey, and other sports will help out.
