on appropriate behavior, both on
and off the field, and ensure that
their players uphold the pillars of
Thornton Academy and serve as
models for the rest of the students.
One tradition for the team is during
the annual Homecoming game: all
of the coaches name their favorite
player from when they were kids.
Names from the 1950s and 1960s
relive their former glory.
Morrison reminds the current
freshmen that “you’re only two
years away from being someone’s
favorite player. Pay attention to the
way you act and behave. Someone
is always watching you and it could
be a six-year-old kid.”
Many Thornton Academy
alumni have started their careers
as freshman on the football
field under Coach Morrison.
Headmaster Rene M. Menard '88
played on the freshman football
team, and he is not alone. Other
current Thornton Academy
employees who played for
Morrison include Craig Agreste '92,
Kirk Agreste '99, Brian Morrison
'06, Greg Paradis '91, Josh Pulsifer
'06, Nick Tabor '96, Ben Nasse '93,
Jeff Camire '91, and Matt Roberts
'04. Alumni Board members Kirk
Purvis '93, JD Hadiaris '98, and Jay
Lowe '92 also played for Morrison.
Volunteer coach
Marc Gagne
instructs Anthony
Jones '22.
All smiles after a 34-0
victory over Kennebunk
in the opening game of
the 2018 season.
It is clear that Jack Morrison’s
commitment to coaching freshman,
not only in football, but in solid
character development, has had
a lasting impact on Thornton
Academy’s culture and growth as
a school. With Morrison on the
sidelines, the players are prepared
to catch the ball and run.
