Caleb Bailey ' 17
Caleb Bailey ' 17 reaches for the stars. Literally. With a goal of working for NASA, he plans to major in engineering physics. Caleb brings a sense of humor and wit to balance the gravity of the course load that he pursued during his four years at Thornton Academy.
One to always challenge himself to understand the ' how and why ' behind a problem, Caleb has benefited from the wide variety of course offerings and the excellent teaching faculty at TA.
While maintaining a heavy academic schedule, Caleb found time to help his mother renovate their recently purchased home in Saco and volunteer with students at Burns School and Saco Middle School, encouraging younger students to pursue education in science and mathematics. Featured as one of the Portland Press Herald’ s 10 Graduates to Watch for 2017, Caleb is certain to fly as high as the drones built in the Honors Intro to Engineering class.( see story on pages 8,9)
Benjamin Leary ' 17
Benjamin Leary ' 17 values hard work. Whether it’ s maintaining a full and rigorous academic schedule at school or doing chores around the family farm, Ben commits to a goal until he has achieved it.
His academic interests include mathematics and chemistry and he plans to major in chemical engineering. Even though he has“ learned no shortage of life lessons on the farm," Ben hopes to explore the world and gain new experiences during his time at the University of Maine.
In addition to helping out on the farm, Ben has worked at a veterinary office and plans to go to veterinary school after completing his undergraduate degree. He feels lucky to have attended Thornton Academy saying,“ I’ ve taken so many classes that have given me perspective on what I want to do.” His TA education has given him a firm foundation from which he can grow and learn in advanced ways.( see story on pages 14-15)
