Tables groaned with the weight of donated items.
Hallways and rooms sparkled with lights. Guests
dressed up to celebrate Thornton Academy and support
its educational mission.
At one point during the live auction, Ari Hadiaris and
Jill Santamore Blake ’06 stepped up to the podium
and explained the significant percentage of students
at Thornton Academy who are disadvantaged by
food insecurity. They explained the founding of the
Headmaster’s Student Assistance Fund (see facing page)
to assist them. “How many of you would like to sponsor
a student in need?” they asked.
Paddles rose all around the room (see photo above).
You could hear a pin drop. By the time the numbers
were jotted down of the 38 donors, over $4,000 had
been added to the Headmaster’s Student Assistance
Fund for the 2015-16 school year and then the room
erupted with applause. Thank you to all those who
chose to sponsor a student in need and help them
achieve success in school.
