I like reminding our communi- ty from time to time that we should be eternally thankful to Dave Sparrow, a very well-known developer, whose ge- nius, foresight and commitment to this area, was the beginning of the transfor- mation of Thornhill, previously known as ‘Modder Village’, into becoming one of the most sought after estates in Gauteng. Another pic of one of the Village houses in Thornhill Avenue from the same peri- od when the area was descending into becoming a slum – and that is no exagger- ation. Every now and then, when I come across pics of the old Modder Village like one at the entrance to our very beautiful estate, I again do not exaggerate, when I tell you my heart almost skips a beat. The memories come flooding back into my very being. This was the road to the shops the café and Dam 1. I clearly remember at a very young age my Mom holding my hand down this road so many times taking me for a swim at the dam (where all the Continued....
