FROM YOUR CHAIRMAN I f there is one thing that marks time in my life, it is sitting down to write to all of you once a month. the reminders start nice enough with a polite email from the office, that gets followed up by a less polite reminder with a trail from the editor, and so it goes until my duty is done till next time. Well here we are again, another month and so much to tell you all. On a personal note my wife has asked that I do less personal issues and more estate issues. Where is the fun in that I asked her? I live here too she told me, just estate stuff darling, just estate stuff please, and thank you. And that was me told. Therefore, I won’t be telling you how nice it was to see my son home from Uni, how difficult business has been over the past couple of months; won’t waft on about the flat stock markets or the strange political outlook we are all facing; nope, none of that human relationship stuff at all. So, what has been happening then? The Gatehouse roof is finished; I should shout from its top! We were touch and go there as it was supposed to be finished ages ago then we ran into problems making sure progress and payments lined up, as you will have noticed since we kept opening and closing the contractors gate. Wasn’t that a hassle and a half working out if you had to slow down to come back in that gate? Worse was driving past and noticing it was opened! The doubling back around the roundabout to get back feeling like a… So glad to say that is done and looking pretty good. Thanks to all concerned for getting this so right now. Speed humps - I understand there is a growing desire from the residents for more and more of them. We are getting lots of requests from around the estate, so please direct them to the office so we can figure out where to prioritise next. On that note I have heard that there are two What’s App groups in Thornhill that have been started up recently. It is great that someone has found the time to start them up and we are always glad when the community is acting together. That said the Board needs to point out that our official communication channels are this newsletter, our web page and our Mail Chimp email communications that come out from time to time. The easiest way for residents to communicate with the office is via email but you can also pop in in person. You can also come along to the AGM or any EGM. You can call for an EGM or general meeting yourself if there is an issue you feel strongly about and sufficient interest is generated. If you have something you want to tell us please do. We would love to receive your ideas. Alternatively bring something up for discussion in the newsletter. All sensible ideas welcome, the not so sensible ideas… who are we to say they are not sensible? Send them in too! So back to those speed humps which triggered the talk of the What’s Apps groups. If you see that certain cars are speeding all the time, please let us know. I just learned my neighbour’s cat was run over by a car on Ostend. A family pet being killed by a car in Thornhill has to be a sad event for any family, and if we stick to the 40kph limit it shouldn’t happen at all. I have a silver bakkie that screams past one side of my house quite often and a white BMW 4x4 on the other side. Guys can we slow down please: speed humps will irritate us all even Continued....
