There are a lot of physical issues that women have just come to accept as normal . Hip and back pain , pain in the pelvic region , urge incontinence , bladder leakage , or even sexual dysfunction . Most women have learned to plan their lives around these issues and don ’ t realize that there is a strong chance that physical therapy can help manage these issues and give control back to the individual . What is the Pelvic Floor ?
The pelvic floor is composed of muscles , bones , and fascia that help to support your pelvis , hips , spine , and internal organs . It requires flexibility , strength , coordination , and mobility to operate efficiently . When these muscles are not working as they should , they can cause pain and other symptoms that interfere with daily functioning . Similar to other body parts , if your pelvic floor sustains injury or dysfunction , you may benefit from physical therapy to address it . The type of therapy prescribed will depend upon the symptoms you ’ re experiencing . For example , some symptoms will require relaxing and lengthening the muscles , while others may require strengthening the muscles .
