Gift Birds a Feast this Holiday Season

Iregularly get questions about songbirds and hummingbirds and how to attract more of them for bird watching . Unfortunately , many of our landscape staples like boxwoods do not do much to support our native birds and insects so they are not drawn to these sites . With the holidays fast approaching what better way to please that hard to buy for family member than giving them a beautiful plant that provides resources for birds as well ?
One perfect plant for the season , and birds as well , is the American holly ( Ilex opaca ). The American holly is evergreen and can be a specimen tree or perfect as a screen tree since it has a moderate growth rate and larger size at maturity .
With the holidays fast approaching what better way to please that hard to buy for family member than giving them a beautiful plant that provides resources for birds as well ?
