Bringing back long-held traditions like the seated , black-tie Preview Party and introducing new events like the Antiques and Aperitifs Cocktail Party , the 34th Annual Thomasville Antiques Show promises to be a memorable weekend . “ We want to honor the traditions that have made the Show into the resounding success that it has become today ,” said Show Co-Chairs Betsy Jones and Dominique Messerschmidt , “ and we are thrilled with our slate of events , speakers , and vendors .” Between designer lectures , a floral workshop , endless shopping opportunities and social events , showgoers will have no end of entertainment that extends to the downtown shopping and dining opportunities as well .
This year ’ s speaker lineup is replete with talent . On Friday morning , interior decorator Alex Papachristidis will bring the influences of his extensive travel and design experience to Thomasville . Lauded for his talent of fusing modern and traditional elements , Papachristidis will describe his approach to design and discuss his book , The Age of Elegance : Interiors by Alex Papachristidis . On Saturday morning , designer Sarah Bartholomew will discuss her practical approach to design , finding a path to bring both beauty and function to every day living spaces . Attendees can “ Shop the Show ” with Sarah , to hear what pieces caught her eye and why . And for Bunny Mellon devotees , the highlight of their weekend will be Saturday afternoon ’ s lecture and book signing with Bunny ’ s grandson , Thomas Lloyd , and her long-time friend , designer Bryan Huffman . Interior decorator Alex Papachristidis has mastered the art of melding modern and traditional elements . He welcomes ideas from his clients and ushers his projects to completion with a keen eye for the smallest details . Mario Buatta lauds Papachristidis as “ one of today ’ s eminent tastemakers . Known for arresting , elegant interiors that meld classical motifs with a modern perspective and sophisticated details .” A New York City native , Alex ’ s first notable commission was a Manhattan apartment that he took on while still a student at Parsons School of Design . Since establishing his own design firm in 1987 , Alex ’ s clients have spanned the country and the globe . “ Even now ,” he says , “ I find decorating the most fulfilling career . I can ’ t imagine doing anything else . Growing up , I traveled widely and saw many beautiful homes in Europe and America , which helped cultivate my eye . And I was born to shop !”
Showgoers may recognize Papachristidis from guest appearances on The Today Show and This Old House . His work has been featured in Architectural Digest , Elle Décor , House Beautiful , and The New Yor Times , as well as numerous other publications . And in addition to being named to Elle Décor ’ s A-List of interior designers and NYC Spaces Top 50 Designers , Alex has also published his own book , The Age of Elegance : Interiors by Alex Papachristidis .
