And while she has spent a lot of time trying to figure out new and improved computer systems , Holder said that she is thankful for the community , Ansley Lacy , the Main Street Marketing Director , Julian Brown , the City Manager , and the talented city officials that did a wonderful job on modernizing the Old Cairo Depot .
“ The talent that went into keeping the character of the building , but also modernizing it , where it ’ s not boring , it ’ s still fun and funky , is amazing ,” Holder said . “ I didn ’ t want to lose the history and the feel of the history of the building . My biggest goal was to just do it justice and make it fun to come and hang out ; it ’ s still an old building that ’ s been brought back to life .”
And now , she said , they have customers , both old and new , from nearby and afar , coming to enjoy what Cairo has to offer . Soon , she said , they ’ ll have a downtown that shines as brightly as nearby examples , such as Thomasville and Bainbridge , but with Cairo ’ s own unique sparkle . “ I ’ ve always lived here , so Cairo is my home ,” she said . “ I wanted nothing more for our downtown than to be like Bainbridge and Thomasville where their downtowns are thriving and so I want that , I want a piece of that . I want Cairo , we ’ re still Cairo , we ’ re going to be different , but I want it to have life brought back in it and we ’ ve got so much potential .”
With concerts being planned for downtown Cairo , Holder said that she ’ s happy that , no matter how big Cairo ’ s downtown grows , it ’ ll always have that southern small town closeness where no one is a stranger .
“ I wouldn ’ t want it any other way ,” she said .
