The Reid House ( 1857 )

The construction firm of Stevens & Butler built this two-story house as a speculative investment sometime around 1857 . It was purchased by Dr . James Ransom Reid around the time of his marriage in 1860 . When the house was inherited by Dr . Reid ’ s daughter , Alabama , and her husband , Dr . James T . Culpepper , it had a Queen Anne style facade . It 1906 , Culpepper added the massive columns and Neo-classical front . The house remained in the Reid-Culpepper family for almost 110 years . Today , it is owned by Bill and Michele Arwood .
