Pebble Hill Polo Classic organizers , Donna McKenzie Nunnally , Whitney White , Kim McCray , and Lori Everett .
“ We learned a lot from this one , because we had the live music , the children ’ s events and saw that we could really extend it , even though the polo match was a centerpiece , it could last longer throughout the day .”
McCray said the board has even discussed adding a polo clinic the day after the classic for those interested .
“ I talked to a couple of people from Perry , Florida , who have horses , but had never seen polo before and they were talking about how they would love to learn ,” McCray said . “ There is Red Hills Polo Club in Tallahassee , but I don ’ t know if they give lessons . We just thought this would be a great opportunity to bring your horse and learn something about polo .”
McCray went on to say that the lessons may not even require a horse , but individuals could just learn the basics and time-honored traditions , such as stomping of the divets .
“ During halftime , after the horses have galloped around and put dents in the grass , everyone goes out and stomps out the dents to make it smooth again for the horses and the riders ,” McCray explained . “ It ’ s big fun ; everybody goes out .”
While the event did feature stomping of the divets for adults , McCray and her team also made sure there was something for the little ones . Pebble Hill had set up stick horses and polo mallets for the kids to play with and feel like they were part of the experience as well .
“ It was adorable and really popular with the children ,” she said . “ It was just a really great family event .”
