I read a warning many more imitation meat products are becoming available because plant-based diets are gaining popularity . We are reminded that these foods might be helpful in our transition away from meat ; however , they should not be used to replace whole plant-based foods because salt , sugar and oils are usually added and these ingredients are detrimental to good gut health , specifically , and to good health , in general .
A quote to remember , by Michael Pollan , a science professor at the University of California , Berkeley : “ Don ’ t eat anything that your great grandmother wouldn ’ t recognize as food .”
Enjoy eating a rainbow of those fruits and vegetables that Mom told us were so good for us and live a longer , healthier and more colorful life .
