Thomasville students experience hands-on learning on
London enrichment trip

Learning facts and figures from a textbook or online resource is certainly part of the educational process , but hands-on experiences that apply information and put it into a historical perspective are an equally important component of an education .
While many of their friends soaked up the coastal sun or headed for cooler mountain breezes , ten local students , aged 15 to 18 , used their spring break for experiential learning about visual arts and theatre during a weeklong April enrichment trip to England .
Nine students from Thomasville Scholars Academy and one home school student attended two West End musicals and a Shakespeare play , toured some of the world ’ s top art museums , visited several art-filled historic royal palaces and participated in a musical theatre workshop coached by a seasoned triple threat stage and screen actor .
Along the way , the group also found time to enjoy traditional English pub grub and afternoon tea , see London ’ s historic cathedrals and ride extensively on London ’ s subway system , and on the iconic red double-decker buses as they made their way around the British capital .
Students had an opportunity to meet with cast members from the West End musical “ Matilda ” at the Cambridge Theatre ’ s stage door .
