began selling certified Angus beef from their small retail store . The store opened in 2015 and drew in decent business , especially considering its location .
“ We saw it was doing decent ,” Adam Hubbard said , “ but we were far out of town and kinda off the beaten path .”
And that , alongside his parents ’ growing desire to retire and the growing difficulty of finding seasonal help for deer processing , is what spurred the decision to take a step back from processing deer and establish a proper , dedicated meat market in downtown Thomasville .
“ Opening a retail meat market in Thomasville has always kinda been a dream of mine ,” Adam Hubbard said .
In 2019 , after seeing a need for such a market in the community , and confident after speaking with other business owners in the area , Adam spoke with his father and decided to strike while the iron was hot .
By October 2020 , the Hubbard ’ s Country Meat Market opened , offering hand-mixed , personally seasoned meat for every family barbecue .
“ Going into this , we said , ‘ We want to have the stuff that you can ’ t get in the grocery stores , we want you to be able to come in , buy a steak , buy hamburger meat , and automatically tell the difference , just in the looks of it ,’” Adam Hubbard said , “ And then , when you go home and cook it and eat it , you can tell a huge difference from the run-ofthe-mill stuff from the grocery stores .”
Another aspect of the store that he focused on was cleanliness and trying his best to not fall prey to the odor that other meat markets succumb to .
“ We want folks to come in and say ‘ Wow , this is a nice , clean shop ,’” he said .
Opening on the cusp of the pandemic , Mitzi Hubbard , Adam Hubbard ’ s mother , said that they were remodeling the building when everything began shutting down , causing a lot of uncertainty for the burgeoning business .
“ That pandemic started right after they bought the building . I mean everything shut down ,” she said . “ So , they were remodeling that whole summer , so we didn ’ t even really know how it was gonna do ... It ’ s done well .”
Persevering through obstacles that every new business faces , Adam Hubbard said that they are getting closer everyday to reaching every unique need of the Thomas County community .
