Students proudly share their mosaics .
Undoubtedly , art is fun , but it ’ s also an intellectual discipline involving complex thinking and problem solving .
Drawing and painting aid in learning spatial relationships , size and shape , color , contrast and certain math concepts . Experiencing art through activities that both engage and challenge help build self-confidence and reinforce motor skills .
Additionally , studies have shown that at-risk youth and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds who were involved in the arts have better academic outcomes . They are more likely to get better grades , enroll in college , and become civic-engaged citizens with respect to voting and volunteering .
Exhibitions
Not only does she teach her students through individualized art projects , but they get to experience the joy of displaying their work in any of several annual art exhibits Dixie organizes .
“ We held an art show sponsored by , and held at Flowers Honda . Attendance was very good , and every piece of student art was sold ! ( I had to rush back to my studio to gather more artworks to replenish the show !)”.
In addition to the Flowers Honda exhibition , she has held student exhibitions at The Bookshelf and The Covey Nest in Thomasville . She maintains an ongoing art display at her campus studio in Ochlochnee . She also works with museums and public spaces to display her students ’ pieces .
