Mr . McQueen was the kennel manager on the property from 1906 . The Kennel Cottage was built near the kennels that housed the many dogs under his care . These included fox hounds , pointers , retrievers and other breeds .
Mr . McQueen was not only a gifted dog handler and trainer , but he also had a wonderful way with horses .
A ribbon-cutting with the Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for February 2 , 2023 to mark the opening of the cottage to the public as part of the Museum ’ s offering of historic buildings depicting life at Pebble Hill in the early 20th century . The public is cordially invited to attend this event .
“ We have wanted for a very long time to restore the Kennel Cottage and have it open to the public . It is exciting to share what the typical residence of a Pebble Hill employee at the time of Kate Hanna Harvey and Elisabeth “ Pansy ” Ireland Poe ’ s ownership of the property looked like ,” said Pebble Hill Plantation Executive Director Whitney White . “ We feel like this is another vital piece in the understanding of the Pebble Hill story .”
The Kennel Cottage will serve as a representation of what a typical employee residence at Pebble
Hill was like from the early 1900s to 1978 .
