Historic “ Kennel Cottage ” to be opened to the public at Pebble Hill Plantation

As a part of the year-long observances , events , and celebrations of its 40th Anniversary as a museum and historic site , Pebble Hill Plantation will be opening the “ Kennel Cottage ” to the public . Constructed circa 1928 under the direction of Mrs . Kate Hanna Harvey , Elisabeth “ Pansy ” Ireland Poe ’ s mother , the simple , but sturdy cottage was built to be the home of Pebble Hill ’ s kennel manager , Mack McQueen . Mr . McQueen lived in the home from 1928 until his death in 1939 , which is why the cottage has always been known as “ Mack ’ s House .”

The Kennel Cottage is one of the many structures Pebble Hill Plantation that has been carefully preserved and restored in order to interpret the history of the property to the public . It will join the Stable Complex , Waldorf , Noah ’ s Ark , Firehouse , and Log Cabin Schoolhouse as buildings visitors may enjoy while touring the historic Grounds .
In recent years , the Kennel Cottage has served as offices for Pebble Hill ’ s Grounds and Facilities Supervisors , but it has long been a goal to restore and open the cottage to the public .
