From coin elongating to design engraving , penny press machines have transformed normal everyday pennies into novel souvenirs for decades .
And in 2016 , Robin Norman Jr . and his wife , Carrie , decided to give Thomasville a taste of what the collectable pressed pennies had to offer . Both Norman and his wife have been collecting coins for years , but Norman said that his wife ’ s lifelong fascination with pressed pennies , and her large collection of over a hundred collectable coins , is what sparked the idea .
Robin Norman Jr . stands beside the penny press machine located at Relish in Downtown Thomasville . It was a combination of his and his wife ’ s passion for collecting coins and Thomas County that brought their project into life .
