To draw a connection , Ambrose likened his job to that of a good roadmap or GPS .
“ We follow road maps and GPSs , you know , to get from Point A to Point B , but a good GPS , you know , will point out to you when there ’ s a hazard along the way here , there ’ s turns , there ’ s going to be toll roads , there ’ s gonna be this ,” he said , “ And if you ’ re not ready for that , then it catches you by surprise .”
And surprises aren ’ t good for a thriving financial plan .
“ What a good planner does ,” Ambrose said , “ is create a plan that looks out to the future and says ‘ Hey , there ’ s gonna be some hazards along the way , these are things to look out for .’”
According to Ambrose , his love for business and entrepreneurial spirit was strong even during his childhood . From selling trading cards to his friends to buy more to starting his own lawn care company , Ambrose said that business and work have been constants .
“ I ’ ve always had a love for business ,” he said , “ I started my own lawn care company when I was , like , 12 . So , I ’ ve always had a knack for doing business and working .”
Ambrose said that his appreciation for hard work came from his father , Chris Ambrose , an attorney at law at Silvis , Ambrose , Lindquist & Coch , P . C ., who impressed upon a young Philip that importance of being willing to work hard .
“ And I hated it back then ,” Ambrose said , “ But now I absolutely love it .”
Becoming a financial planner , however , wasn ’ t a straightforward journey for Ambrose .
“ You know , it wasn ’ t one of those divine , you know , ‘ Hey , this is what you ’ re gonna do with your life ,’” he said , “ It was , you know , through a series of , um , of trying , successes and failures . I ’ ve had every job under the sun growing up , multiple jobs at once , working for universities and working at restaurants , being managers for outdoor retail companies .”
