It is very clear that a feeling of belonging is a physiological need for humans . Loneliness can creep into any of our lives . It is clear through Erik Erikson ’ s theory of psychosocial development is identity vs . role confusion , adolescents search for a sense of self and personal identity , through an intense exploration of personal values , beliefs , and goals . During adolescence , the transition from childhood to adulthood is very important . Loneliness is creeping in during this phase of self-discovery .
There is clear need for human interaction and many are turning to technology to gain a real human connection . The huge danger comes when these new products in technology and social media are going to begin to replace the drive for real human connection .
The internet and social media are quite possibly the best and worst of human creations . This can be demonstrated using a simple example such as poor mental health leading to suicides in young people . Balance is going to be key , social media can help reduce loneliness but if too much is absorbed it can become addictive and have the opposite affect .
