It’s a future-ready region with Faithful+Gould The Tees Valley has weathered the demise of shipbuilding and steelmaking, but new opportunities are enabling the region to punch above its weight, and Faithful+Gould is helping them win the fight. T hese are important times for the Tees Valley as the region pursues new economic growth. The region’s history in manufacturing and engineering, chemicals and process, logistics and energy remain very important to its identity, but digital manufacturing, life sciences and innovative renewables are now adding to it. The Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA) is playing an important role in driving economic growth and job creation in the area, under the leadership of the mayor. Comprising Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees local councils, the combined authority has earmarked £588.2m of investment into the area. The aim is to create 25,000 new jobs and deliver an additional £2.8bn into the Tees Valley economy by 2026. And whilst projects such as the South Tees Development Corporation site, the single biggest development opportunity in the UK, the Priestman Road Bridge, creating better connectivity to future investment, and Teesside International Airport all act as a catalyst for enhanced and indigenous economic growth, ensuring a high-quality environment where people and business thrive is critical. For this to succeed, integrated project and programme management is essential for delivery. This philosophy recognises the different make up of each project and applies strong leadership to a team, encouraging a collaborative working ethos with clarity of purpose and strategy to deliver successfully. Integrated project management will deliver a better, timelier product that is more efficient and that will realise quality improvements and cost savings – fundamental to the ambitious plans of the Tees Valley. A CL EA R P URP O S E Only when the team shares an understanding of where they are going and what that destination looks like is there any hope of all getting there. Integrated project management leads the process of precipitating a shared understanding of the business benefits to be delivered, what success looks like and how it will be measured. 64 A CL E A R ST R AT EGY Reaching your destination within the limitations of available time, budget and resources is dependent on the ability to identify both opportunities and obstacles. Knowing where you are going is only the first step; you also need to know how you are going to get there and have the skills, the resources and, perhaps most importantly, the attitude to deal with the unforeseen along the way. The aim is to create 25,000 new jobs and deliver an additional £2.8bn into the Tees Valley economy by 2026. CO L L A BO R AT IVE WO R KING Integrated project management provides the glue that holds the team together in delivering success. Collaboration is a major element of this ethos; developing strong teams is the foundation of a successful project. By working together as "one team", the experience and knowledge of all parties can be shared and exchanged and common goals and objectives can be established. Director David Gardner. ST R O NG LEAD ER SHIP Strong and effective leadership not only achieves excellence in delivery but also in team culture and behaviours. Mutual regard, trust, integrity, setting an appropriate example and encouraging team-based behaviours and positive attitudes creates a winning project environment. Through integrated project management, leading effectively, establishing a collaborative ethos and making the necessary investment to define and communicate both a clear purpose and an achievable and flexible strategy, project success can be delivered. The Faithful+Gould business, together with Atkins, has been integral to the Tees Valley’s reinvigoration and project success, with recent examples including the National Horizons Centre, Northern School of Art, South Tees Site Company works, Centre Square Middlesbrough, Priestman Road Bridge, TeesAMP, Middlesbrough Town Hall and strategic regional road improvement schemes for Highways England. We value our own heritage in this vibrant region and we’re immensely proud to be part of the Tees Valley’s new chance to shine.
