AV Dawson’s automotive metals store and Intermodal Park. The port facilities have hosted some exciting projects. AV Dawson's site was selected to receive cargo for the construction of the polar research vessel Sir David Attenborough's new wharf in Antarctica on behalf of transglobal projects, beating competition from ports across the country. The project involved turning its quayside facilities into a bio-secure zone for the loading of the shipment destined for Antarctica. The success of the project has delivered at least a further two years of specialist cargo work for the company. The site also helps bolster the Tees Valley’s export credentials. More is exported through the River Tees by tonnage than any other river in England - and in 2018 British Steel also exported more than 140,000 tonnes of steel destined for overseas markets directly from AV Dawson’s quayside facilities. The port facilities were also used to unload a tunnel-boring machine that is being used to excavate the new underground passage that will transport polyhalite to Teesside from Sirius Minerals’ new mine in North Yorkshire. AV Dawson also boasts Stobart Energy as a customer and recently started working to unload woodchip on behalf of the company. on-site infrastructure has seen the business invest over £50m in infrastructure and improvements in the last 12 years. P ORT FA C I L I TI ES With more than 850 metres of prime river frontage, four rail-linked, lock-free berths and a renowned strength in cargo handling and distribution, AV Dawson is well positioned, providing an efficient gateway to overseas trade, particularly with Europe. British Gypsum, part of the global Saint-Gobain Group, also imports a product used to make plaster and plasterboard into the Teesside facility.
