WYNYARD’S
WONDERLAND
T
he Gardens at Wynyard Hall are fast
becoming one of the North’s leading
visitor attractions. Recently named
amongst the top four ‘Favourite British
Gardens with collections of English Roses’
by David Austen – alongside Kew Gardens,
RHS Wisley and Bodnant Garden – The
Gardens at Wynyard Hall is an impressive
day out for the whole family.
The Gardens, opened in 2015, feature
a superb walled garden which, in the
summer, showcases over 3,000 roses
planted with a wide range of perennials.
Designed by Alistair Baldwin, the walled
garden is full of colour and heavenly
scents, with meandering paths and
beautiful water features.
In addition to the walled garden, the
collection of gardens include a wild garden,
edible garden and 3km woodland walk.
The Edible Garden is used to grow a
wide range of vegetables, fruits and herbs
which are harvested and used throughout
the estate’s kitchens.
The chefs can regularly be found
foraging in the woodland and wider
estate, before heading back to the kitchen
providing a true plot-to-plate dining
experience in both The Wellington
Restaurant and The Gardens Café.
Perfect for stretching the legs, The
Woodland Walk is a 3km trail through the
historic woodland surrounding the estate.
As well as features of historic interest,
there is also a children’s play area featuring
a wooden train crafted by a local carpenter,
alongside wicker huts and tipis that will
stimulate little imaginations.
With so much to see and a regular
calendar of events available to view and
book online, The Gardens are a great place
to visit all year round, with unlimited visits
to The Gardens and Woodland Walk for
12-months for just £6.
Admission includes entry to the Walled
Garden, Edible Garden, Wild Garden and
Woodland Walk, plus the Farm Shop, Café
and Glasshouse.
