Shaping the

Teesside

How Muckle is setting down roots to advance the region’ s ambitions

All eyes are on the future at the home of Teesside’ s newest business resident.

After opening the doors to its permanent base in Stockton this year, Muckle LLP is embarking on an ambitious growth plan, with high aspirations both for the firm and for Teesside more broadly.
Not that Muckle is new to the area- far from it. For decades the firm has been quietly supporting business in our region. It already counts Wilton Engineering, Tekmar Energy and Teesside Airport as clients and regularly works with the Tees Valley Combined Authority( TVCA).
However, setting up a new base in Teesside and relocating from temporary to permanent accommodation is a significant milestone.

To mark the occasion, Muckle welcomed guests to join them in raising a glass, enjoying a slice of pizza and even a cheeky parmo in celebration of all things Teesside. Hosted in June in the beautiful grounds of The Hidden Oak, the evening offered the chance to unwind in a luxurious yet intimate setting. of tomorrow

This felt like a good fit for Muckle, where the culture is not corporate and stuffy but focuses on building genuine relationships.
As the first law firm in the North-East to become a certified B Corp, requiring it to uphold the highest standards of environmental, social and people values, the business is keen to be a force for good wherever it operates.
And the Muckle team in Teesside is committed to continuing this approach in their new home. Currently employing seven full-time members of staff, all proud Teessiders, Muckle has active plans to recruit more.
Led by partner and head of private client Leah Duffield, real estate partner Rachel List and corporate partner Oliver Hebdon, the team is ambitious and optimistic about what they can achieve.
“ As people who live and work in Teesside, we understand the region, its strengths and its potential,” said Leah.“ We’ re excited about the opportunity to make a meaningful difference and by working closely with organisations across the region, we hope to unlock new opportunities, drive growth and contribute to Teesside’ s continued success.”
This potential for growth was a key factor in the decision for a Teesside base.
The firm aims to achieve a total 15 % growth from its new Teesside and Cumbria offices over five years. But as a B Corp, profit and purpose always go hand in hand.
“ We live our values and put them into practice every day” added Rachel.“ We actively look for pro bono opportunities and we are encouraged to take at least two volunteering days. We want to help build stronger, more resilient communities, to use our skills and services for wider benefit.”
The firm has already established a strong partnership with Teesside charity Clean Slate Solutions and welcomed its founder, Richard Brice, as guest speaker to its opening launch event.
Hugh Welch, senior partner at Muckle, is also a trustee at the charity, which has been supported to the tune of £ 16,000 in grants to date.
Muckle’ s expansion into Teesside broadens the firm’ s regional footprint. With practice areas covering a full range of commercial specialisms, Teesside clients can now tap into a wealth of expertise directly from a Teesside base.
“ This is a hugely exciting new chapter both for Muckle and for Teesside,” Oliver said.“ It unlocks tremendous opportunities for both parties and we are looking forward to building stronger collaborative relationships with the
